Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Automotive Plastic Interior Trim Design Engineer to design and develop plastic interior components for automotive applications. The candidate should have strong knowledge of plastic part design, injection molding, tooling feasibility, GD&T, 3D modeling, and automotive design standards.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop automotive plastic interior trim components such as instrument panels, door trims, consoles, pillars, garnishes, bezels, and other interior parts.
Create and modify 3D models, 2D drawings, assemblies, and detailed design documentation.
Develop designs considering injection molding feasibility, assembly requirements, appearance, functionality, and cost.
Apply DFM/DFA principles to ensure manufacturability and ease of assembly.
Design plastic part features including ribs, bosses, clips, snap-fits, draft angles, wall thickness, and locator arrangements.
Understand and apply GD&T, tolerance stack-up, and engineering drawing standards.
Coordinate with tooling, manufacturing, quality, testing, and supplier teams during product development.
Review and incorporate customer requirements and engineering changes.
Support prototype development, sample evaluation, testing, and design validation.
Analyze and resolve design-related issues identified during trials and production.
Prepare engineering change documentation and maintain design records.
Participate in design reviews and provide technical solutions for product improvement.
Ensure designs comply with automotive quality, safety, and customer-specific standards.
Key Skills & Technical Requirements
Required Technical Skills Strong knowledge of automotive plastic interior trim design. Proficiency in CAD software such as CATIA V5
Siemens NX
Creo
or equivalent. Good understanding of injection molding processes and plastic materials. Knowledge of tooling and mold feasibility. Strong understanding of GD&T
tolerance stack-up
and engineering drawings. Knowledge of automotive interior assembly methods and fastening systems. Understanding of Class-A
Class-B
and Class-C surfaces will be an advantage. Good problem-solving and analytical skills. Working knowledge of MS Office and engineering documentation.
