Welder
A Welder joins, fabricates, and repairs metal parts and structures using specialized heating and melting processes. They interpret blueprints to build anything from industrial pipelines and high-rise structural beams to automotive chassis and manufacturing components.
Core Responsibilities
Interpret Blueprints: Read and interpret welding blueprints, engineering drawings, and welding symbols to plan layout sequences.Select Equipment: Choose the correct welding methodology, shielding gases, and filler metals based on the specific material properties.Prepare Materials: Clean, cut, grind, and bevel metal workpieces using hand tools and power grinders to ensure proper joint fit-up.Execute Welds: Perform precise welds in various positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead) while controlling heat and weld pool penetration.Inspect Quality: Conduct visual inspections and use non-destructive testing tools to check for defects like porosity, cracks, or undercut.Maintain Machinery: Set up, calibrate, and perform routine preventative maintenance on welding machines, torches, and gas regulators.Enforce Safety: Wear mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including welding helmets, respirators, and fire-resistant clothing to manage fumes and sparks.
