The role is a mix of computer-based design and physical testing:
✓Concept Development: Researching and sketching new ideas based on client needs or market gaps.
✓CAD Modeling: Using software to create detailed 2D and 3D models of parts or systems.
Prototyping & Testing: Building physical or digital prototypes and putting them through stress tests to see if they break or fail under pressure.
✓Simulation (FEA/CFD): Running computer simulations to analyze how a design reacts to heat, vibration, or fluid flow before it is even built.
✓Material Selection: Choosing the best materials (metal, plastic, composites) based on strength, weight, cost, and environmental impact.
✓Collaboration: Working closely with Manufacturing Engineers to ensure the design can actually be built efficiently.
2. Required Skills
✓Software Mastery: Proficiency in tools like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, CREO, or Fusion 360.
✓Analytical Thinking: Using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to ensure structural integrity.
✓Knowledge of Manufacturing: Understanding processes like 3D printing, injection molding, and CNC machining.
✓Mathematical Precision: High-level competency in physics and calculus to calculate tolerances and load capacities.
